A Warm Welcome to New Players
Perhaps you played at school, on holiday or at another club. You don’t need to be a strong player—just some previous experience and a willingness to join in. If you haven’t picked up a bat in years, you’ll be in good company.
We welcome adults of all ages, with players well into their 80s and a wide mix of playing standards. Thursday club night is about fun, fitness and friendly company, with no pressure to join a team.

About Us
Riverside Table Tennis Club plays out of the Riverside Community Centre on Rosemoor Gardens, Thatcham / Newbury. We’re an active member of the Newbury Table Tennis League, fielding teams as Riverside Rushes, Racketeers and Rapids — while also running purely social sessions for anyone who just fancies a friendly hit.

What’s it like at Riverside?+
Relaxed, sociable table tennis on Thursday evenings, with the option of league play if you fancy more competition. Come along and see for yourself.
How does this site relate to the Newbury & District league site?+
They do different jobs. The Newbury & District Table Tennis Association runs the league, and its site is the record of the competition — fixtures, results, tables, averages, rankings, handicaps and the rules all live there, and that is where league players go. This site is the front door to one club: where Riverside plays, when, what a night costs and how to come along for a first game. Anything to do with the league itself, we link straight across to them.
Do I need to be any good?+
Sharp, no. Whatever you'd put yourself down as — rusty since school, a social player, or someone who plays properly — there's someone here at roughly your level looking for a game. What helps is having played before, so you can get straight into one. We're a widely mixed group: all ages and abilities, with experienced players in their eighties playing alongside everyone else. Bats are available if you need one.
Can I just turn up?+
If you're already a regular, yes — just come along on a Thursday evening. First time at Riverside? Get in touch before you come so we can check there's space: it's four tables and a single hour, so some nights are busier than others. Someone will then be expecting you. Wear comfortable trainers and bring a drink.
What’s the cost?+
£3 per session, paid on the night. There’s no membership fee and no term to sign up for — you come when it suits you.
I've never played before — can I come?+
Riverside probably isn't the right first step. Club nights are a single hour and everyone plays games from the off, so there's no beginner coaching and no time to teach the basics. If you played at school, on holiday, or years ago, you'll be fine — that's most of the room. If you've genuinely never picked up a bat, a beginners' course or a local coach will get you further faster, and you'd be very welcome here after that.
Is there parking?+
Yes, there's free parking on site at Riverside Community Centre.
